Mentor Biography: Scott Stemple
Scott is entering his 10th year as District Director of Athletics for Mason City Schools. Mason is an Ohio High School Athletic Association member and participating in the Greater Miami Conference (GMC).
Scott is a 1985 graduate of Ohio Northern University where he obtained a teaching degree in Social Studies and was a team captain and lettermen in basketball. He has a combined 30 years of interscholastic and intercollegiate administrative, teaching and coaching experience. He started his teaching and coaching career in 1984 as a student teacher at Lima Senior High School while being the Junior Varsity Boy’s Basketball Coach at Ada High School. In 1985 he became a social studies teacher and Head Boy’s Basketball Coach at Kyger Creek High School (now River Valley) near Gallipolis, where he stayed for three seasons before moving on to Kenton High School as Head Boy’s Basketball Coach for two seasons. In 1990, he accepted a position as a graduate assistant in the men’s basketball program at Ohio University where he obtained a Master of Science Degree in Health and Physical Education and Athletic Administration. After completing his master’s degree in 1991, Stemple became a physical education instructor and Head Boy’s Basketball Coach at St. Francis de Sales High School in Toledo, Ohio. In 1994, Scott would leave high school teaching and coaching as he moved on to Wilmington College as an Assistant Professor in the Department of HPE and Head Men’s Basketball Coach. In his first five years at Wilmington he was both Head Men’s Basketball and Head Men’s Tennis Coach. Scott is a member of both the Ohio and the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association. He is married and has four daughters.

Mission Statement
We believe as an athletic department at the interscholastic level in focusing on the formation of young women and young men into individuals who are intellectually, spiritually, socially and morally balanced and mature.
We believe in striving to:
- Uphold the educational goals of the institution under the direction of the institution’s administration. The concept of “student-athlete” must be maintained and emphasized within the Athletic Department
- Complement the academic goals of the school district by nurturing promising student-athletes, demanding of them a dedication to, and pride in, academic achievement while providing them the opportunity and assistance to succeed
- Assure the opportunity for all students to participate actively in a viable athletic program, and to provide them the qualified coaches and supervisors whose goal is to make them better students, athletes and citizens of their community. With this, to instill a special pride in our graduating athletes: pride in being a part of the school district’s athletic history and family
- Assure that the facilities, equipment and competitive opportunities are maintained to attract and retain quality student-athletes, and to sustain a commitment to the physical, educational and moral development of all student-athletes
- instill in coaches, staff members and athletes the desire, willingness and dedication needed to win, to take pride in winning, to accept defeat with dignity, and to understand and live with principles of good sportsmanship and humility while always projecting an image of class
- Assure that the athletic department strives to provide the school district and the local community with a successful, honorable, exciting and reputable athletic program, which dramatically demonstrates the ideals of leadership and commitment to excellence

Facilities
The Mason Athletic Department has various facilities throughout the High School and Middle School Campus.
Dwire Field at Atrium Stadium: Turf Football Field with an 8 Lane, All-Season Track. Synthetic turf field, Jumbotron scoreboard, separate practice fields for teams, two concession stands, two press boxes, and pro-style goal posts. Facility used as a host site for state playoffs.
Mason Arena: Basketball Arena with Jumbotron- Home to Boys Basketball and Boys Volleyball and Wrestling Tournaments. Arena has a seating capacity for 3,000. Facility is used as a host site for state playoff events.
Baseball Field: Three baseball fields, irrigation on the varsity field, batting cages, electronic scoreboard, and audio system. Facility used as a host site for state playoffs.
Softball Field: Three softball fields, irrigation system on the varsity softball field, infield tarp for varsity field, batting cages, and electronic scoreboard. Facility used as a host site for state playoffs.
Multipurpose Field: Olympic-sized synthetic turf multipurpose field, home and practice site for both soccer and lacrosse. Seating capacity for 1,240, Kwik Pro-style soccer goals, sheltered benches, press box, electronic scoreboard and PA system. Facility is used as a host site for state soccer and lacrosse events.
Tennis Courts: 16 hard courts. Used as a host site for state playoffs.
Natatorium: Home to Swimming. State-of-the-art natatorium, eleven lanes, moveable floor, yard by meter measures, two retractable diving boards. Colorado timing system, seating capacity for 600. Facility is used as a host site for state and national swim meets.
High School Gym: Home to Girls Basketball and Girls Volleyball. Seating for 1,000.
Wrestling Room
Atrium Fitness Center: Strength and Conditioning Room. Two fully equipped weight rooms, Hammer Strength equipment, six universal power racks with decks, full rack of dumbbells, complete life fitness cable circuit, 10,000 square foot strength room.
Field House: Indoor four lane track, four gyms (with electronic curtain), four indoor tennis courts.

History William Mason High School graduated its first class in 1886. The school houses students in grades 9-12. Mason has various extracurricular activities including academic teams, athletics, performing arts and band. Prior to becoming a member of the Greater Miami Conference (GMC) in the 2007-2008 school year, Mason was a charter member of the Fort Ancient Valley Conference (FAVC). The FAVC was started during the 1965-1966 school year. Since joining the GMC, Mason High School has won the all-sport trophy each year.
